In 2001 Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation Support Programme funded this work to assist this £1m Belfast based start up software company.

 

RFD Ltd                                             E-commerce & innovation system              £151,560

This project ran from 2001 to 2003.  The School of Mechanical Engineering also collaborated.  It enabled the design and implementation of an e-commerce infrastructure.

 

Helm Corporation Ltd                      E-commerce for government                       £ 70,780

This project ran from 2000 to 2002.  It involved a major project with the Statistics Agency and systems for both African and Asian developing counties.

 

GCAS Design Ltd                              E-commerce dynamic content                     £ 70,780

This project ran from 2000 to 2002.  This developed a database system to ensure web content is kept fresh automatically and updated easily in several languages.

 

Apion Ltd                                           Telecommunications software systems      £  82,388

This project ran from 1998 to 2000.  It was to raise the maturity of Apion’s software development process.  This company went from a start up to over 200 staff in 2 years.  The benchmarking and intranet systems enabled this growth to be managed.  The company was sold for $250 million.

Selected in1998 as a Mentor to 3 companies to improve their productivity and profitability.

 

Andor Technology Ltd                      Software Process                                          £205,970

This project ran from 1997 to 2000.  I was Lead Academic on this joint project with the School of Chemistry.  This project resulted in greatly increased growth for Andor Technology and a new company Avalon Ltd being formed.

 

Relay Business Software Ltd           Software Quality Process                             £  82,052

This project ran from 1997 to 1999 to speed the production of business critical insurance industry software.  This project enabled the company to develop new revenue streams.

 

CEM Systems Ltd                             Automated Software Testing                        £  85,920

This project ran from 1996 to 1999 to improve the reliability of software to control Hong Kong Airport.

 

Ulster Bank,                                       Data mining                                                    £  18,000

This project with Ulster Bank’s Information Systems Services in 1996 successfully applied data mining techniques to produce commercial advantage for the Ulster bank.

 

EC TRISPIN project             Software Process Improvement                   £    5,300

This project in 1996 was to Mentor 3 companies to improve their productivity and profitability.  This was successfully achieved.

 

Kainos Software Ltd             Software Benchmarking                               £  69,666

This project ran from 1994 to 1996 and focused on software being developed for Marks and Spencer.  The research was assessed as making a ‘significant contribution’ by the Department of Trade and Industry.
