Qulifications

  • PhD in Artificial Intelligence was awarded by the University of Edinburgh in February 1995. My thesis is concerned with extending a probabilistic logic -- Incidence Calculus and the comparison between Extended Incidence Calculus and related theories, i.e., the Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence and the assumption based truth maintenance systems.

  • MSc in Artificial Intelligence was awarded by Jilin University in July 1987. This was a three-year taught/research degree. The first one and half years were spent on the modules on the theoretical and fundamental aspects of computer science and artificial intelligence. The last one and half years were spent on the thesis. My thesis was concerned with the design and implementation of a general knowledge representation language for building petroleum exploration expert systems. This was part of a collaborative project between Jilin University and Daqing Petroleum Exploration Company.

  • BSc Hons (1980-1984, first class, overall distinction) in Computer Science was awarded by Jilin University in July 1984

  • The ``Colin and Ethel Gordon Scholarship Award'' of Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Edinburgh and an UK ORS Award respectively (Oct. 1991 -- Oct. 1994).
